Artists like to express themselves. That is the point of art. But how do you take the artistic product and share it with the public. That is where issues come up and censors step in.
Take for example one of, if not the hottest song of the summer “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke. One line of the lyrics has Thicke telling a young women “you the hottest bitch in this place”.
Now I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this as a pick up line for any guy, even if you look like Robin Thicke. But I have heard this song on several radio stations, YouTube and the Today Show. Each one has a different variation on the line depending on the censors.
YouTube is airing it as it was originally recorded. The Today Show changed it to “you the hottest chick in this place” and on the radio I have heard “you the hottest Ho in this place.”
I really want to be in the room where a group of censors is sitting around debating the wording for a song. What censor really thought women would be insulted by being called a bitch but would totally think being called a ho is cool.
Censorship might be coming from a place filled with good intentions but it has taken a turn for the ridiculous. Let the music play as written and performed. The ultimate censor is the listener who will change the station if they are offended.
